Delos Island

The sacred, rocky islet of Delos, which is supposedly the birthplace of Apollo and Artemis, is one large archeological site; the most important in the Cyclades cluster. For a thousand years it was thought to be the political and religious center of the Aegean. It is reachable by boat from Mykonos and the ride takes about one hour. The island is world famous for its incredible mosaics from precious stones and the 5 iconic Lions statues. The well-preserved temple of Apollo and the island’s Archeological Museum, which was erected in 1904, are also worth a visit. Camping is strictly prohibited on the island, and so is overnight stay and boat mooring.
